My Dance Story

My first childhood memory is of my Mom putting on a record, yes, I said record.  Wrapping a large, pink, holey blanket across her back just before she scooped me up in her arms and twirled me around the living room.  Who would have guessed back then in that swirly haze of fuzzy pink and giggles a passion was being formed?

It wasn't until a few years later that I started formal dance training.  The typical Ballet and Jazz that most 5 year old little girls dream of doing.  The rest of my childhood was spent taking the opportunity to dance whenever I could.  In my living room, church events, and service projects.

I was raised on Classic movies, I knew all about Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.  The classic movies so warped my view of reality I thought that was how real life was, women were ladies, men were gentlemen.  So it was only natural when it came time for my first dance I knew just how it would go...

I would walk into the room, all eyes would turn to me in wonder, "who is that amazing girl?! I must dance with her!"  I knew, (because I saw it in all the movies) I would be turning away boys left and right because my dance card would be so full of boys lining up to dance with me.

Then reality hit, modern day dances were NOTHING like the movies.  No one asked me to dance, I didn't even fast dance with anyone.  I was devastated!!  My reality and dreams of a dancing world were shattered.  No Singing in the Rain for me, more like crying in the rain.

But I didn't give up.  By the time I was out of High School I wanted to get into dancing as a career, but I wanted a style of dancing that didn't have a prime age limit, I wanted to dance for the rest of my life.  I still had a belief that somewhere there had to be a place where men still asked women to dance, there had to be more to this world than Grinding and the Night at the Roxbury Head Bob.

I was blessed to be guided to Ballroom Dancing!  I began as a student at a franchised dance studio.  After a year of that and all the high pressure "car sales" that went with it I vowed when I became an instructor I would treat my students as humans.  Dancing is meant to be fun and enjoyable, not something you go into debt for, not something you are pressured into doing.

With my lessons learned I set out and found a studio where I was trained and certified as a Professional Ballroom & Latin Dance Instructor, it wasn't long that I realized that studio as well believed in the High Pressure Car Sales approach too.  I will never forget what I was told one day when I let a "potential sale" walk out the door.
"It is not your job to be concerned whether they have the money or not, it is your job to create the desire in them to do whatever it takes to rob the bank!"
That is simply not my style, I have been on the other side of that philosophy and it sucks!  I took a Marketing class in school that taught,
"at the end of your work day you need to be able to look yourself in the mirror and say, I was ethical and true today"
That is how I choose to run my businesses and my life.  So I became an Independent Instructor, after my experience in the dance world I noticed a few things:

1. Most adults don't like to try new things in public.
2. Most men, like to be in control and not show weakness, so dancing in public is often a tough thing to get them to do.
3. Women want to learn how to dance but their commitments at home and unwilling mates keep them from pursuing their dream.
4. Ballroom dancing melts inches off waist lines in record time and builds incredible endurance!
5.  The working person likes to stay at home once they get home after work.
6. No one likes traffic!!

With those points swirling in my head I decided to create a Dancing Business centered around addressing those issues.  My goal is to give the Ultimate in Customer Service.  I come to YOUR home, and teach you in the Privacy of your own home.

No longer having to wrestle with traffic,
find a sitter,
use precious gas,
embarrass yourself learning a new skill in a public place.
And, lose weight while having an AWESOME time.

Okay, so I know you are wondering about the Pole Fitness Dancing Lessons that I teach!

The best thing I got out of taking lessons at a franchised dance studio was the friendships I formed there.  My dearest friend Deb and I have been friends for YEARS, we each left the franchised world of Ballroom Dancing and went different paths.  She became trained in Pole Dancing Fitness Parties.  Once her business got too big for one person to handle she brought me in and trained me to be a Pole Fitness Instructor as well.

Let me tell you, as one coming from a strong Christian upbringing, this is NOT what you may think it is.  The pole can easily be seen as another piece of workout equipment just like the treadmill and elliptical that you bought around the first of the year but have yet to use.  The Pole, is a piece of work out equipment that you will use...Your husband will see to that!! =)

The classes are very tastefully done, clothes are kept on at all times, classes are taught based on your comfort level.  If you are looking to get rid of that nasty jiggly flab on the back of your arms, or firm up that tummy, taking a Pole fitness class is exactly what you need!  You will be feeling the burn after your first lesson.  Once again this is a fun way to work out and get fit, Zumba has nothing on Pole Fitness!! =)
